History
The university library was established to support the education, teaching, and research of faculty, staff, and students, while also providing reader services. It upholds the spirit of humanistic and academic care, and respects readers by safeguarding their rightful access and usage.
The library was founded in August 2000 and was initially located on the third floor of the Administration Building. It later moved to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the General Building, occupying about 973 square meters. The library included areas such as the reference section, stacks, periodicals, reading areas, computer search zones, audiovisual rooms, and high-speed learning sections.
With the full support of Honorary Chairman Mr. Ching-Po Lin, former Chairmen Mr. Shih-Chi Kuo and Mr. Cheng-Che Huang, and the Board of Directors, the university began construction in 2004 of an 8-story Library and Information Building totaling 17,940 square meters, capable of housing 500,000 volumes. It was completed and opened in December 2005. In addition to the existing facilities, the new building includes discussion rooms and expanded reading spaces to better serve faculty, staff, and students.
The library currently uses the Transtech Totols22 automated library management system. Readers can conveniently search for books and multimedia materials via the Internet. In addition to books and periodicals, the library provides access to electronic databases connected to major domestic and international information websites, as well as a variety of multimedia resources for teaching, learning, and entertainment.
The library has joined the national interlibrary cooperation network and established service exchanges with libraries across the country. In December 2004, it joined the Northern Taiwan University Library Alliance to enhance inter-campus collaboration. To foster stronger community engagement, the library is also open to Taoyuan City residents for borrowing privileges, providing them with a comfortable and book-friendly space. Alumni are likewise welcome to use the library’s services.
Fulfilling its social responsibility as part of higher education, the library launched the “Building a Literate Society – Nationwide Book Donation Campaign” in the 2003 academic year, initiated by former Director Dr. Shui-Chi Lin. The campaign collected a total of 120,000 books, which, after selection, were donated to libraries in remote townships, significantly enriching educational resources in those areas.
